Nestor Redondo: Merlin
Nestor Redondo (1928-1995) was a giant of Philippine comic art. His swirling inking style, inspired by his mentor Francisco Coching, set the standard for generations of Filipino artists. From the early 1970s Redondo worked for American comic books and TV animation.
This Merlin was drawn for a limited-edition print. It showcases Redondo’s astonishing control of the Chinese-style brush, offering, as a writer once said about another artist, “an example for both the inspiration and the despair of the student.”
